Hi everyone. I graduated with a BS in Human Services in June, and I'm researching now, deciding what kind of master's degree I'd like to get. The options I'm looking into include social work, mental health counseling, and school counseling. I was wondering if you kind folks could give me your opinion on the MSW, how you like/liked it, and how expansive this degree is for possibilities of future employment compared to these other options. I would like to work with children/youth, and preferably would like to become certified in Animal Assisted Therapy as well and work that into a career while working with children/youth. I've posted in a couple other places, but always appreciate any additional insight!
That's what I've been told, too. Thanks for your input!
MSW for the win! You can do all of those things you're interested in, as the commented above said. I have friends with School counseling and counseling degrees, and they've told me they can't find any jobs. Places want Social Workers. :)I'm also in the process of getting my dog Felix certified to work with me (AAT). I work in a psychiatric hospital and I bring him in a few days a week. It's a great way to combine my two interests! Best of luck to you!
Thanks for the info! And that is awesome about you getting Felix certified. :) I'd love to work in AAT but I know right now, you need to be involved in a field to incorporate it into.
